Interdisciplinary Conceptual Artist
Sung-Hee Son is a Los Angeles based artist, designer, producer and curator. She earned a BFA in multi-disciplinary fine arts at Montserrat College of Art in 1996, then moved to New York City where she worked in and learned about the art world. She managed the Global Marketing & Design department of Sotheby’s Art Auction House, as well as similar roles at Pratt Institute and James Cohan Gallery.
In 2008, Sung-Hee moved to Los Angeles for family and rebuilt her career. In her artistic practice, Sung-Hee explores themes of identity, cultural diaspora and the liminal space between experienced and imagined realities. Her work is often conceptually driven with influences from science fiction, philosophy, music and literature. She creates within the mediums of painting, photography, performance, sculpture and installations.
As a curator and cultural programmer, Sung-Hee focuses on supporting emerging artists and bringing communities together to share and celebrate creativity and diversity.
